Cat In The Rain Essay From the literary analysis I wrote, I want my readers to be able to read and understand the special relationship of the husband and wife in Ernest Hemmingwayââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Cat in the Rain.â⬠Some critics believed that the cat representing the American wifeââ¬â¢s desire for a child. From the first time we read Hemingwayââ¬â¢s short story, I immediately jumped to conclusions such as the couple did not really like each other or maybe they just had a barrier in the relationship. I discovered from other critics online and through other members of the class, that I was not the only one who thought so. It was not very difficult to write the second paragraph of this paper. Many parts of the story and pieces from the articles had lots to say about the American wife and her barrier from her husban d. The paragraph about George was more difficult for me because for most of the story, he remained in the room reading throughout the story. By writing an annotation and a literary analysis over the same Hemingway story helped me to see the differences between them and how to critically analyze literature. I did struggle with quoting and referencing the articles that I drew information from, but I felt like I did my best on the writing portion of the paper. I didnââ¬â¢t learn much quite as much in my Comp 1 class, but I have been able to take and learn a lot from this class. Literature and writing essays has never been my strong area, but I have been able to appreciate learning what we have so far!

Robert Edward Lee à à à à à Robert Edward Lee was born of two distinguished Virginia families. He was a devoted son, an outstanding Westpoint cadet, and an United States army officer for thirty two years. He graduated second in his class. à à à à à Lee started his impressive Military career as a Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers. His first assignment was to work on the construction of Fort Pulaski in 1830 near Savannah, Georgia. Then in 1831 he was transferred to Fort Monroe, Virginia where he worked on harbor defenses. à à à à à In 1834 he moved to Washington, D.C. as an assistant to the chief of engineers. In 1835 he was assigned to resolve the Ohio-Michigan boarder conflict. In 1837 he went to Saint Louis to work on stabalizing the Mississippi river channel. He was promoted to captain in 1838. Being sucessful in Saint Louis he was assigned to Fort Hamilton in 1841 to work on the New York Harbor fortifications. When war broke out with Mexico in 1840 Lee was sent to Mexico for two years as an engieneering officer. There he was praised for his galantry and good conduct. In the war with Mexico he was wounded in the Storming of Chapultepec in 1847. The Mexican war was suposed to be the help that Lee needed in the experance of commanding troops. After the Mexican war Lee was assigned to Baltimore in 1848, he was to supervise the construction of Fort Carrol for nearly four years. à à à à à In 1852 the United States military academy at West Point became Lees home when he was appointed superintendent. During his three year stint he raised acidemic standards, lengthened the program from four to five years, and improved facilities. à à à à à In 1859 in Arlington, Texas Lee was given command of Federal forces which were there to make sure Mexicans did not invade Texas. Then Lee was sent to capture the abolitionist, John Brown at Harpers Ferry. à à à à à Then when war seemed impossible to avoid, President Abraham Lincion summond Lee and asked him to lead the Union army, but Lee declined. On April 23 he became commander and chief of the military forces in Virgnia, just three days after he resigned from the U.S. Army. à à à à à In February 1865 Lee was made commander and chief of all confederate forces. His great battles of the Civil wars include Antietam, Chancellorsville, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg. He won many, many battles in the Civil war. Finally on April 9, 1865 General Robert E.

Conservation vs Preservation
Conservation vs. Preservation Letters Dear Local Newspaper Editor, I wanted to talk about the importance of conserving our national forest. There are many things we can do to tap into the natural resources without harming the environment. We can take the necessary to survive without depleting the resource so that it has a chance to regenerate, whether the source would be fish, deer, or even vegetation. We will take precautionary measures when tapping into any resources. For example, if we would be tapping into oil reserves we would do it in a way that we will not pollute the water, the land, or the atmosphere.Like we have been doing it for years we will commit in doing the reforestation. Where ever we need to take part of the land we will replenish it with what we take. That will give the land a chance to revitalize itself. We have so much technology in which we can avoid any type of disaster. We know if we make a mistake we can harm many things, like the animals or the vegetation. T hat is why we will make sure we do not make any mistakes, and for any reason we will have different types of plans any type of emergency. By conserving and getting the resources we need, will benefit us in many ways.Energy from fossil fuels such as gasoline, electricity, and natural gases for heating are very beneficial. When conserving properly we can keep the natural forestation going for many years to come. We have to make sure to protect and be cautious of what we are doing and using so we can continue benefiting from these natural resources. We should do this so that way we would be using our own natural resources and not rely on resources from other countries. We need to help everyone out because without these resources we cannot live the way we are living. We are going to conserve this forest so there can still be rivers and streams flowing.Animals will still have their homes and their food. We are not trying to destroy nature nor are we planning to. We need to come to an agr eement where we can get to the resources we need without harming anyone or anything during this process. Please take our offer into consideration. We need to preserve the forest because it sustains our natural resources. We need to come up with a plan to get the resources we need without disturbing the natural state of the land.In the Bridger Teton video I watch they showed how beautiful nature was and how important it was to preserve the land. Throughout the years people have taken more than what they need. This National Forest is the last large forest that has a growing wild life population in which animals can make it their home. I have seen the affects that have been caused when people tear down natural dessert lands as well. Flooding started happening around us. By tearing down the natural forest it will impact the animals by making them scarce and also tearing down their natural habitat, which makes it hard to survive.I understand that we do need oil and gas to survive but we also need to have natural lands to keep us and the animals alive. I donââ¬â¢t understand how people could want to destroy something that is so beautiful and that will benefit us in the future. Like I mentioned earlier, wildlife will not have a home so what happens to the animals? Where will they go? There have been many incidents where people destroy a natural habitat and the wildlife ends up in someoneââ¬â¢s back yard. The news has shown where they kill these poor defensive animals because they believe they are a danger.We are a danger to them because we are destroying their homes. It is very important to preserve the national forest so our future children can see something that is naturally there. It is a beautiful place for people to see and actually relax with what nature feels like. People get away from everyday life and enjoy something different. Classrooms today look almost nothing like the classrooms of past generations. Modern classrooms revolve around technology, every room has either a projector or smart board front and center. A significant amount of homework is submitted digitally, and a computer is often a class requirement. Many studies have shown the positive effects these teaching and learning techniques have, and the results are not often disputed. Technology is helping educate students even at the elementary level, but studies are showing a decline in average IQ compared to data collected in the last half a century or so when this technology didnââ¬â¢t exist. A study by the U.S. Census Bureau showed a 2.44-point IQ drop from 1950 to 2000, and predicts an additionalâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Rob Asghar wrote in his article ââ¬Å"4 Ways Your Smartphone Is Making You Dumberâ⬠in Forbes magazine that, ââ¬Å"Chronic under sleeping can lead to 15 points or more of IQ lossâ⬠(par 2). The ability to th row away up to fifteen IQ points is truly a first world privilege that is a huge contributor to the decline of intelligence in America: fortunately, this problem is easily fixed by placing mobile devices out of arms reach at night and self-imposing a healthy sleep schedule. Not all the contributing factors are as easily fixed as distancing oneââ¬â¢s self from distractions though, one of the issues causing average intelligence to decrease lies in the trends of low educated families increasing their numbers at a higher rate than ones with educated parents. The population of the United States in 1950 was just over 153 million people, compared to the current population of 323 million. In less than a century the Population of the U.S. has more than doubled. Understanding how averages work, a higher number of overall people will balance out the average and cause the outliers in both directions to essentially be covered up. This means that with a higher population, it takes a massive am ount of either higher or lower IQs to change the average significantly. The fact that average IQ is decreasing means that most of the increased population since 1950 had a below average IQ.
